Tiger arrived..

… about 2 hours ago – and I’m very impressed… I updated my personal 800 Mhz Ti Powerbook (while working, a benefit of working at home I suppose), and it feels a lot faster than 10.3.9..

And this thing was feeling REALLY slow, after working on a dual 2 G5 all day (and I’ve been using builds of Tiger for a few months, so it pained me to go back to 10.3.9)

Go pick it up if you haven’t already.. it’s well worth the price.

Jennifer is in Hong Kong.. I think…

So, last night my time Jennifer flew from Shanghai to Hong Kong.. I didn’t get a text message, but I presume she got there with no issues..

This morning I looked at her itinerary, for the hotel she’s staying at in Hong Kong.. and there isn’t one.

So.. well, needless to say I hope she noticed that a long time ago, and isn’t sleeping in the airport or wandering the streets. I have an old version of the itinerary (the thing is really long you realize, like 15 pages of flights and hotels) so hopefully on the new one there is a hotel for her.

I’m hoping she’ll send me an email at some point, letting me know she’s ok. I’m a worrier, if I haven’t mentioned that before.. I wish I wasn’t at times like this.

Tonight’s confirmation statement of faith

I had the pleasure tonight of tagging along with some of the youth I volunteer with at Entheos to their statement of faith presentation to the head honchos at the Lake Grove Pres church.

It was pretty eye opening.. a lot of them are well versed in the the bible, and what a statement of faith seems to be… I’m sure there were some who believed what the wrote a bit more than others, but for the group I sat in on, they all seemed really sincere..

One thing struck me tonight though – Liz was asked who her mentor was in her faith, and she mentioned Brian Craker, who used to work at Lake Grove Pres as a youth directory, but is now becoming a full fledged pastor..

But Liz mentioned how Brian always had these great talks, and was always available for her at any point of the day or night for questions about her faith… Brian’s legacy lives on in Liz, she’s not going to forget what Brian meant to her..

That’s really the kind of mentor I’d like to be.. I can see it being harder because I’m not paid staff, so I don’t have the direct involvement with youth that they do.. but maybe, someday in my own way, I’ll affect a youth like Brian affected Liz.. and then.. well, life will be all good. :-)

Mini Cooper S 3600 Mile update

Since I had exactly 3600 miles on “Lizzie” when I drove into the garage tonight, I figured I’d post on how it’s going.

First the positive things – it’s a ton of fun to drive.. it also gets a lot of attention when I drive it (I’m not quite sure if that would be a positive or negative thing yet, as.. well, most Canadians aren’t ones to try to attract attention to themselves, that’s probably why I hate hate hate those 20 inch chrome wheels that fools put on their SUVS)…

It gets great gas mileage, and it was great to drive with the top down on Friday when the weather was, well, bloody unbelievable here in Portland..

The not so positive things – I’m having problems with it.. I’ve had the gas gauge, which is electronic (a series of lights below the nav screen) just go off – saying my tank was empty. I’m also having almost stalling problems when I first start it when it’s cold, it’s taking a few minutes to really idle properly. I have somehow gotten a window crack on the top right of the windshield, I’m thinking maybe a stress crack..

And I get tired of shifting.. blasphemy I know some of you say, but maybe I’m getting old, I miss my A4 and it’s tiptronic automatic. It’s loud on the highway, because of the top.. and the xm radio I had installed really only works about 1/2 the time, due to where the dealer put the antenna (I can’t even describe to you where it is, it’s so odd.. basically it’s inside the car, in the header metal above the windshield.

All in all.. it’s fun to drive when I’m in the mood to drive it like it should be driven, but that’s not all the time… I feel like I shouldn’t be complaining, I should feel grateful I even have a cool car like this. Hopefully after I get everything fixed on it I’ll feel better about it.

My predictions for next week…

There are a lot of rumours going around about new hardware from Apple next week.. and I’ve got this feeling they are going to announce new hardware (bumped, new whatever)..

Here’s why – what better time to do that than the week of a new operating system release? “Oh, honey, instead of buying Tiger, let’s just impulse buy this PowerBook today, since they just changed them and it comes with Tiger”..

Who says I’m not good at marketing..

Band Of Brothers DVD

I borrowed Jim’s copy of Band of Brothers like a month ago, and finally got around to watching the first disc tonight.

Wow. This is a very very engaging show – the thing for me that really hit home the beginning of each episode… they interview some of the real solders who were part of Easy Company, the paratrooper jump team. That really hits it home for me personally, these stories aren’t just something some writer has invented, but events people actually went through.

It’s hard for me to fathom what these guys went through. What everyone went through and goes through in all the wars humanity has been through.

Jennifer is off to Shanghai China today…

Jennifer is, as I type, is flying to Singapore, from Melbourne Australia.. she’s got an hour layover, and then boards a 777 to Shanghai, arriving there about 10pm local time.

I have to admit, I’m a bit nervous about her being in China.. maybe I’m being over protective, but.. well, there’s just something about China.. my mom tells me I’m a worrier, so I should probably just relax..

She’s posted a few pictures of her weekend in Melbourne, which if you are a regular reader you’ve noticed. But the rest are here.

So.. sigh.. 1 1/2 weeks down, two more to go.. this time in two weeks, she’ll be home, we’ll be together again.. it can’t come soon enough, to be honest.. I think she’s been home 1 1/2 weeks out of the last 8 weeks..

Anyway, enough complaining by me….
