Working with Aperture

I have been working with Aperture a lot lately. I haven't had any issues with Aperture crashing on me since I stopped trying to import photos from my iPhoto library. I have imported several photos from my camera without issue. I think I am still going to use iPhoto for my random pictures and Aperture for "Special Events". For example, I have some photos from a recent Ballet in which I danced; these photos deserve to be in Aperture, while the photos for the table that I am trying to sell doesn't need the Aperture treatment.

Overall, I am really enjoying Aperture. I have created some web pages and I created a photo book. I will be ordering the book in a couple of days, I will do a review of the quality once I get it. I have heard the Vendor that produces the book for Aperture is different from the Vendor that does it for iPhoto. The quality from Aperture should be higher.

Right now, I am enjoying Aperture so much, I wish I didn't have to work so I can play with Aperture and get all my photos organized and published on the web.

Playing with Adobe Go-Live

Well, I am going to try to update the JennandLucien.net website. With the ability to create web pages from Aperture and upload them to any website, I am trying to see if I can make all the pages look uniform with very little work. I got the Adobe Creative Suite 2 for Christmas, so I am playing with Go-Live. It's been kind of interesting. I think I probably want to do stuff that is beyond the beginner level, so I am having problems finding free tutorials that cover what I am looking for. It looks like I am probably going to have to buy a book and read up on my own. Any one know of a good Go-Live book? I am looking for one that is at a beginning level and covers some more advance topics. I don't have much website development experience, although I am pretty technology-savvy.

With playing with Go-Live and Aperture, I wish I could sit at my computer all day. Chores are not getting done this week at my house. ;-)

Hawaii Pictures

Ok, so I finally got the first set of Hawaii Pictures up. For those that don't know, Lucien and I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii with Lucien's family. In total, there were 14 people, including 3 under the age of 3. We spent 10 days in Kauai with Lucien's family and then Lucien and I ditched the family and went to the Big Island for a couple of days.

I have published pictures from the first night in Kauai. In the next couple of days, I may be moving the pictures to a different site. I just don't have the brain power right now to figure out how to publish the pictures on my own site.

For now, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

One Hawaii Picture

Hawaii IMG_9436.jpg, originally uploaded by Jennifer J.

Ok, so now that I have Aperture, I have been working on getting the pictures from Hawaii uploaded to the web. It is a slow process as I don't think everyone wants to view all 1105 Pictures.

The good thing is that Aperture isn't crashing on me anymore. Once I got the library cleaned up, I haven't had any issues. The only issues I have experienced are user issues because I don't really know what I am doning. ;-)

Installed Aperture Today

Well, I finally got Aperture installed today. My biggest complaint, it's really (I mean really) slow. I have imported the pictures from my recent trip to Hawaii into Aperture. The import didn't take that long. What is taking long, is the cleaning up of the photos. I had a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto Library of these pictures and instead of cleaning it up in iPhoto (I had problems exporting the photos from iPhoto, but that is another post), I am cleaning up the photos in Aperture.

Selecting the photos to delete is pretty easy. It's just like any other Apple application; use command-click to select multiple images. When I go to delete the photos from the library, Aperture hangs. I have forced quit Aperture 3x's now and I still have not deleted all my duplicates. I don't know if there is a magic number of number of images that I can delete, or what, but I will continue to work with application and hopefully things will go better tomorrow.

One more thing to add, I am running Aperture on my 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 1.5 GB of memory.
