Happy Thanksgiving ...

Actually I am a day late (and usually a dollar short :-) ). But anyway, Happy Thanksgiving. I had a great Thanksgiving. My sister Julie is visiting from Chico, CA. Basically, we are just hanging out and enjoying each other's company. I did have to work yesterday. The project that I am working on is in the middle of a "Go-Live', which basically means we are making some enhancements to the functionality. Since I work in IT, this means that nobody can be on the system while this happening, so it usually happens over Holiday Weekends, Thanksgiving and 4th of July, being the most popular.

Well, yesterday I got a phone call at 5:00 AM from the lead, who informed me that I was up for validation at 5:45 AM. So I got out of bed, took a shower, and drove into work. I basically, spent an hour validating the system. Afterwards, I drove back home and went to bed.

I then had to go back at 3:00 PM to validate another system. This time it was quicker, since I had already done it once.

The good thing was I got done in time to make Thanksgiving Dinner at a friend's house. Dinner was great, good friends and good company, what more could you ask for?

Updated Website

Ok, so my big accomplishment today was being able to add stuff to my website using Dreamweaver. I think the biggest success story is being able to figure out how in the heck to connect to the website. We (Lucien and I) just changed web-host and I needed to change all my settings. I reality, I should have know that I can do it (I am pretty computer savvy). I guess it's just exciting seeing the end product of my work. The next thing that I will have to do is putting the same menu bar on all the pages. I still haven't figured out how to save this as a workable template and use it for new pages. I guess I will figure it out eventually.

Tomorrow, after my tap class, I am going to need to spend some time on a couple of home movies. I really wanted to get an iMovie created of my Disneyland Trip in Sept and give it to my family as a Christmas Gift (since most of them went with me). We will see if it gets done.

Working on Jennandlucien.net

I have been updating our (Lucien and mine) website so that it actually looks like someone cares about the website.

As a .mac member, I got a discount on Macromedia's Contribute, so I decided to try it out. It's a nice program. It allows me to basically place graphics and pick colors that I like without needing to know HTML, which is a big plus. Though, I am now having issues with it's limitations. I would like each page on the site to have the same basic look. Looking at the "New Page" menu, it has a folder for templates. That sounds great, I can create a template and base on the new pages on that template. Sounds good, right? Well, not so quick, after looking through the menus and the help, it looks like you can only save Templates in Dreamweaver and then use them in Contribute. That means I need to buy a $400 program to enhance the features in the $99 program. I am really not too happy about that.

One of the nice features of Contribute is the fact that it does contain a bunch of templates that are ready to use and it really does make nice web-pages.

I would recommend Contribute for basic users, who don't really have much computer experience. I wouldn't recommend the program for advance users who what a lot of flexibility and want more control over the look of the pages.
